When I don't have time to bake cookies after I make them homemade. I put the dough into a large piece of wax paper. Next, I roll the wax paper around the dough and secure the ends by twisting them. I can either refrigerate or freeze the dough. When I'm ready to bake the cookies I have to make sure that the cookies are refrigerator temperature. Then bake according to your recipe instructions.
